Jill and Joe were married last October in a totally gorgeous Fall ceremony at Castle Hill in Newport, RI. Crazy in love, these two were so much fun! Young, hip, silly, totally comfortable in front of the camera, having the time of their lives and yup... IN LOVE. You could practically feel it radiating from them in all directions which was a joy to photograph.

If you are familiar with my work, then you probably know I went nuts over Jill's shoes. I held back in this post but I'm pretty sure there are at least 20 more images of her shoes alone... I just can't help it. It's those fun personal touches that make everything come together as the bride's own and I love to see that little pop of color under the gown.

No Fall wedding in Newport would be complete without a crisp, saturated sunset over Narragansett Bay. We were not disappointed...

Both architects, Jill and Joe have an incredible eye for detail and transformed their tent into a beautiful and bountiful country harvest setting.

Scheduling portraits, I love it when my couples ask hesitantly if it "might" be ok that for just a few shots we could "possibly" have the dog? I have to laugh at this because I am always totally up for it and wouldn't have it any other way. Look at awesome little Frankie here! He's like this fun little speed bump overflowing with personality. That face! I was so glad he was with us -- not only to provide the laughs (which he truly did) but also, to Alexis and Chris, he's family. There's no reason on Earth why he, too, shouldn't be part of this important occasion...

(...and while I haven't heard any word about it just yet, I'm really hoping he can make it to their big day!)

New Yorkers (and of course, Yankees fans!) April and William were married at the Glen Manor House in Portsmouth, RI this past September. I absolutely love Glen Manor - mostly because of it's unassuming location and how it's tucked away from everything around it - but also because while it's a giant sprawling mansion, there is a very quaint and comfortable at-home feeling there.

April and Will decided to see one another before the ceremony which gave us a long time for photographs (yesss!) and allowed everyone to be relaxed and at ease...

I just love this bouquet. So rich in color and texture...

Lily and Brad were married at Regatta Place on Goat Island in Newport RI. Although it was a drizzly summer day and the clouds were heavy, Lily's ten thousand megawatt smile overrode any chances of being bummed out. Her gorgeous bright yellow lily bouquet was a true refection of her attitude and personality; cheerful, bright and beautiful. I love these colors - and I love these guys!

I've known Brad since we were teenagers. If you ever told me back then I'd be photographing the future weddings of my friends, I never would have believed it. Another reason why I absolutely love my job.

I am overjoyed to share some images of my dear friends Jamie and Kris's wedding! First of all, if you don't know these two people, you should. And if you know one of them, then you will absolutely know the other one also (no exceptions!). They are a pair, a team, a dynamic duo, co-workers and very, very best friends. I cannot imagine one without the other - in the best possible meaning of the words.
This wedding was so "them" in its beautifully natural backyard setting and reception entrance by boat. Friends and family came from across the globe to celebrate...

Courtney & Tony get engaged! 7/23/11

This shoot was awesome! I got a phone call from Tony (above) about a week prior asking if there was any way we might be able to pull off an idea he had and if I was interested. Once I got the details, I could not wait to see his amazing day come together. And did it ever.

Meet Courtney, pictured above. It's her birthday and she's feeling fine and looking fabulous, but she has no idea that she's being photographed by the stalker in another chair on the lawn (me), nor does she have any idea that in about 5 minutes, her boyfriend Tony is about to propose to her...

Success! Tony outed me once the deed was done...

But the surprises continued...

A few minutes later, a boat sailed by with a small crowd singing Happy Birthday and blowing air horns for all of Castle Hill. When Courtney gets a closer look, it's her family and friends who've surprised her with a visit to Newport to celebrate her 30th birthday!

Down to the docks we go to wait for the boat...

To think these two just rolled right into an impromptu photo shoot and look this relaxed and amazing just blows my mind.

No one on the boat had any idea that these two just got engaged...

but when they found out, I am pretty sure all of Newport heard! Check out the clearance on this girl's jump -- excellent!

And the last surprise (with Tony winning any and every award for creativity, secrecy, and sweetness), were sweatshirts he had made to mark the occasion for the sunset sail. What an amazing, unforgettable evening. Happy Birthday and a VERY BIG congratulations to Courtney and Tony!

Virginia & Glenn

Virginia and Glenn were married at the stunning Chanler at Cliff Walk in Newport, RI on April 30th. There was so much to love about this wedding - we had gorgeous weather and the surf was up (the venue is incredible, located right on the Cliff Walk and overlooking the entire span of Easton's Beach).
But what I found most entertaining is that Virginia and Glenn share not only their love for one another and have big dreams for their lives together, but they also share a gargantuan mutual love for movies which ultimately brought them together in the first place. Namely, Godzilla. Add a little Mothra, Ebirah, Rodan and Kamacurus (all of them VS. Godzilla at one time or another) and you've got the script for a very happy ending.
I always love when my couples incorporate as much of their own personality and interests as they can when planning their weddings and this one was no exception. Everything from spinning awesome records, to the unbelievable Godzilla/ Mothra cake, to platform combat boots under that white gown, I have to say this wedding was totally one of a kind and a blast! Congratulations Virginia and Glenn!

Here are a few snaps from the very short and sweet wedding ceremony of Amber and Jamie on March 12th. This wedding was particularly fun since the couple asked me to photograph it only 4 days out from their date! My job was easy in contrast to the bride traveling for work right up until the day before... and I give them both serious props for being on top of everything to pull it off without a hitch. The ceremony was held at St. Francis Church in Wakefield, followed by an intimate afternoon reception at the famous White Horse Tavern in Newport, RI. Congratulations Amber and Jamie!

Erin and Jay - October 2, 2010

If I had to pick a word for this wedding (and many come to mind - gorgeous, inspiring, chic, heartwarming, sophisticated... I could go on all day), I think I would probably have to choose fun. Erin and Jay have that sort of comical magnetism, which I am pretty sure isn't even a real phrase, but it's the best way I can describe their sweet and silly personalities which is contagious when you're anywhere near them. The two of them just light up when they're together and like moths to a flame, it's easy to see how they are surrounded by such cheerful friends and family.

The couple was married in the Our Lady of Mercy Chapel at Salve Regina in Newport RI which was followed by an exquisite and stunning sunset reception at Belle Mer on Goat Island (complete with steel drums, fire pit and raw bar - all overlooking the sailboats in the setting sun with gaping views of the Newport bridge and Narragansett Bay... it doesn't get much better!).

During their rehearsal dinner at the Clark Cooke House the night before, a bridesmaid's thoughtful speech to the couple thanked Jay for always letting Erin be herself. So simply put, I liked that. To be with someone who let's you be yourself and who brings out your best is what we all strive for in all of our friendships, and it was wonderful to be able to photograph a couple that hit the mark so well.

Corinne and Mike had an evening wedding in downtown Providence RI during their famous summer water fires in Waterplace Park. Corinne loved to be photographed and you can see why! She certainly has a classic and timeless look which, among the city scape backdrop, was endlessly inspiring and simply lovely. We had the perfect weather to waltz through the city and get creative and while I'd love to post the hundreds of ideas we came up with... I'm limited to just a few selections here. They, like many couples, decided to take many of their photographs before their ceremony which gave us ample time to cruise along Ocean Drive and Hammersmith Farm and see what inspired us. It was a perfect afternoon wedding, complete with a little rainstorm only to be followed by a brilliant rainbow above the yachts as the evening came to an end... Congratulations Liz and Matt!

Once upon a time, there was the perfect country wedding... And I got to photograph it! Woohoo! Tayla and Brian were married in Stonington, CT on July 24 in a backyard wedding complete with inspirational details, amazing food, incredible weather and kick ass fireworks. I'm convinced the vintage Galaxie 500 was made with this day in mind! I am thrilled to share this wedding with you and am so grateful to have been a part of it.
My favorite weddings are always the ones that are the most creative and expressive of the couple's true selves and this was no exception. Enjoy!

Having had their "first" wedding in Simone's native Australia, they wanted to put on a lovely spread, New England style, for Brian's side of the family. Complete with decadent lobsters under the crisp white tent, a sprawling lawn lined by flowering trees, and being a stone's throw from Newport's stunning Ocean Drive on the coastline - it was a perfect, beautiful New England event! Congratulations to one of my sweetest couples yet, Simone and Brian...

This is a very small peek at the (not yet complete) home page of my new wedding site! I'll admit, it's not really fun to look at just one page that you can't really do anything with, but I had to share something since I've been working on this for more months than I care to fess up to. I was starting to think people thought I might be lying about the whole thing since I haven't shared anything at all until now....

The new site will have larger images and more of them, plus it will allow me to keep content fresh and current by adding new weddings regularly, which my old site was unable to do. I can't wait to be finished but it's nice to see the light at the end of the tunnel... stay tuned!

Wedding 360 Event in San Francisco

I am very excited to be attending the Wedding 360 event for Wedding Planners and Designers (and bloggers, photographers, editors, highly driven creative types, you get the idea) tomorrow in San Francisco!
I am not only more than happy to be in California no matter what the occasion, I am in the middle of totally revamping my wedding site so this will pump me up with inspiration, ideas and perspective on where the industry is going and how I can better market myself and accommodate my clients. Can't wait!

Books and albums...

This time of year I am usually hustling to get all of my orders out of the way before Spring hits me with a new round of events - to which I am grateful of course. I have been making books and putting together albums over the last several weeks and it only seemed fair to share some samples here. Because I shoot a lot of different genres, these samples are of weddings, family fun, sailing events, and a very sneak peak at an African safari from last June... The books are sturdy and polished and I love having a finished product at the end of any one of my shoots and adventures. They tie everything up rather nicely and are much easier to share with family and friends than a CD of images. Digital is good, but tangible is better!

Sara and Kyle - Little Compton, RI

I have a small confession. I was not the official photographer for this wedding (and was actually told to leave my camera at home and follow the specific directions to enjoy being a guest for once!) but I just couldn't help myself. Kyle, the groom, is one of my very best friends of all time - 17 years now, to be exact - and perhaps I brought my camera to keep myself busy rather than have the sentimentality of the day overwhelm me, which it did about 30 times as it is! Sara, the gorgeous bride, is not only full of life, hysterical (very) and an incredibly talented photographer, she is also perhaps the best match for Kyle in the whole wide world. I am so very, truly happy for them!

The ceremony was originally planned to be on the lawn with sweeping views of the ocean but was moved indoors after a menacing rain storm pummeled the property. Nobody fussed with chairs or arrangements, but instead we cleared out the furniture and nabbed a spot to stand in the open living room, leaving a simple path as an aisle. It was perfect. Christian, a dear friend of ours, was the officiant who married them. The rain eventually stopped and in its place was a heavenly Little Compton sunset. I couldn't imagine experiencing that day without my camera, but it was a nice little reminder how life is the present moment - and while I am used to photographing moments all the time - its the moments that stay in our minds that often are the best ones.

Rachel and Charlie, Long Island NY

Rachel and Charlie were married on Lloyd Harbor, NY on June 21st. The forecast said it would rain for just about a short eternity, but we were lucky in that it went rather easy on us. This was the first wedding of mine that managed to do two things that completely blew my mind - first being Rachel's orange belt and flowers (which I had an obvious affinity for since it was such a clever and thoughtful way of incorporating my favorite color into her ensemble - I know, as if it has anything to do with me!) and the second being that she made her wedding dress by hand. As in, by herself. YES. This floored me since not only is completing such a task unimaginable to someone like me, but it was absolutely stunning - flawless on her figure and her skin tone, perfect stitch after perfect stitch. It was truly something to see and a keepsake that many of us could only dream about.
Rachel and Charlie were so relaxed and poised throughout the day it was easy to forget the rain and fall into the wonderful rhythm of good music, good food, good friends and family. All the best to Rachel and Charlie, Mazal Tov!

Meghan and Craig were married on Gooseberry Beach in Newport, RI. An early spring New England wedding still lent us sunny skies and a warm enough day for a bare-foot beach wedding. I cannot say enough about this day perhaps being one of the most natural, breathtakingly beautiful weddings I've ever photographed. It was simple and comfortable, but graceful and inspiring. There was no question that there was love in the salty sea air! Congratulations Megan and Craig....

Allyson and Cody - South Dartmouth, MA

Allyson and Cody were married on August 9, and I have to admit that this is one of my favorite weddings of all time. Here are 16 images that were next to impossible to narrow down from the hundreds that I absolutely loved! The entire day was phenomenal - from the weather, the details and personal touches, to the undeniable support and love that Allyson and Cody have from their wonderful friends and family - it really was the perfect day.

Besides having a wedding day that was inspirational to photograph, I couldn't have asked for a better couple. Laid back, genuine and fun, these guys are awesome! The couple live on their sailboat in Annapolis, MD and when I asked where they were going for their honeymoon, they both shrugged in unison and said "We don't know. We'll sail somewhere, wherever."
I can't think of a better place to go.

I had the pleasure of photographing Ella (the little one here with parents Nichole and Cameron) when she was about 8 hours old. She was a small peanut and didn't move a muscle except for making a tiny kitten noise every so often.

Fast forward to now. She's one, totally in charge and questions authority! She's got no time to wait around for everyone and seems to be late for something, off and running at all times. Honestly - I don't even remember seeing her through the lens she'd move so fast, but somehow we managed to snag a few shots while bribing her with everything from sticks to golf balls to rocks....
Needless to say, she's quite the little lady now and changing all the time. I'm lucky to be a part of her first joyful years and even luckier I can document them and share them with all of you. Love you guys!

Keri and Ed, Happy Anniversary!

Ok, so I am cheating by posting this entry because it isn't a wedding. BUT, I had the pleasure of shooting Keri and Ed's wedding last year (7/7/07 - check the website to view their gallery) and they just celebrated their one year anniversary in Newport, RI where they were married.
Coming from NY, I was thrilled to hear that Ed wanted to surprise Keri with an anniversary celebration - I knew that she would be really touched, especially since the past year has been such a blur with the arrival of their new baby. Only.... my surprise turned to amazement (and then I think I fell over) when Ed explained he not only booked me again to be their photographer but he also got the same exact room at Ocean Cliff they shared on their wedding night, got the same caterers to make an identical-to mini wedding cake just for them, got the chefs to pull together the identical menu from their wedding meal, got the florist to recreate a smaller replica of their centerpiece.....am I forgetting anything? Oh yeah, and a violinist to serenade them all the while (which made their baby weep while the rest of us weren't far behind). WOW!
We had a wonderful time cruising through Newport and it was almost surreal to think an entire year has gone by so fast.... Congratulations to Keri and Ed on their anniversary and also on the recent arrival of their Honeymoon gift: baby Trey!

Ed, FYI, we are working on cloning you but in the meantime, when does your book on Romance come out?? ;-)

Erin & Ted Narragansett, RI

Erin and Ted were married on June 20th in Narragansett, RI. The weather was incredible, the surf was up and the Newport to Bermuda race was starting in the Bay just about the same time Erin was putting on her dress. Ironically, Erin and Ted also chose Bermuda for their honeymoon, so they probably had about two days of peace and quiet before the steady influx of sailors by the scores...nothing a few Dark and Stormy's can't fix!
Their wedding was impeccable, complete with a beach house right on the water and the reception at the famous Towers on Ocean Road. The bride chose punchy red flower arrangements contrasted with blue ribbon, hydrangea and thistle - very, very cool.
Guests took home homemade jam made by the family which was a pretty sweet idea!

Shannon and Patrick were married on May 31, 2008 at Astors Beechwood mansion in Newport, RI. While the forecast called for rain, we beat the odds and were dry well into the evening hours. Personal touches included the bride's handmade favor boxes (like, 100 of them!) and the wedding cake was bordered by candles and a mix of exquisite glass-like hanging grapes to catch the light. It was a beautiful idea and everything - the weather, the venue, the band, the food.... it all came together to be a fantastic night!
